Evangelist arrested on his way to church

Although he set out for an all night service, Edovie Alormeli, a 20-year-old devoted Christian and Evangelist ended up in his Police cells.

This was after he was arrested on his way to church service for possessing firearms without lawful authority.

The facts of the case were that Alormeli, an Evangelist who is also a blacksmith, native of Adaklu Ahunda, in the Volta Region, recently came to join his brothers in Tema, with the hope of getting employment in the construction industry.

Three days after he had arrived in Tema, he and his two brothers, Raymond Adjeshie and Formekah Christian decided to attend an all night service at their church at about 10pm.

On their way from their Community 20 home, however Alormeli told his brothers that he had brought a pistol he had manufactured and asked if it would be allowed into the church.

When asked why, he told them that he had intended to sell it about 150,000 cedis, to support him self while he looked for a job.

During the discussion, a police patrol car pulled by and began interrogating them.

In the process, the police decided to search them. Alormeli, who wanted to outwit the Security Officers, threw the weapon away but luck was not with him as the Police Officers saw the pistol and had all the three arrested and thrown into custody.

The two brothers were however released and used as Prosecution Witnesses while Alormeli was charged.

The accused has appeared before His Honour S. K Teye’s Circuit Tribunal and pleaded not guilty but eventually changed his plea to guilty after evidence by his own brothers exposed him.

He was convicted on his own plea. His sentence was however deferred for a later date.
