The Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Citizenship, Constitutional and Electoral Systems (CenCES), James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila, has urged Ghanaians to embrace discipline and support lawful actions that promote national development.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on July 7, 2025, Bomfeh expressed concern over the return of hawkers to the streets of Accra following a recent decongestion exercise by city authorities.
He noted that citizens often resist or criticize well-intentioned actions by leaders, which ultimately hinders the country's progress.
“We need to be organised. People must not sleep where people work. Citizens must allow the right thing to be done,” he stressed.
Bomfeh further called on civil society organisations, religious leaders, and traditional authorities to support the enforcement of rules and help educate the public on the importance of civic responsibility.
He emphasised that the success of any developmental policy depends not only on leadership but also on the willingness of the people to cooperate.
“The success of developmental policy does not only depend on leadership. Citizens must cooperate to achieve good results,” he said.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, launched a comprehensive decongestion exercise aimed at restoring order and improving urban mobility within the city.
The operation targeted key areas, including the Central Business District and the Circle Neoplan Station.
The exercise involved the removal of unauthorised structures, the eviction of street vendors, and the enforcement of sanitation and traffic regulations.
The operation was led by the Accra Mayor, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and supported by the Ghana Police Service and National Security personnel.
AMA officials cleared pavements and bus stops that had been converted into commercial spaces, which had been impeding pedestrian movement and public transport operations.
