Campaign to clean Mfantseman launched at Saltpond

Smiling Point and Investment Company Limited, a real estate developer, has launched an environmental sanitation campaign at Saltpond to tackle the deplorable sanitation situation in the Mfantseman Municipality.

Dubbed; “Cleaning Streets,” the campaign aimed at complementing the efforts of the Municipal Assembly in ensuring a clean environment by engaging individuals as sanitary officers to clean the streets.

The Company would also provide equipment such as wheelbarrows, cutlasses, hoes, rakes, wellington boots, brooms, shovels, mattocks, raincoats and pay the allowances of the sanitary officers.

Mr Kenneth Kelly Essuman, the Municipal Chief Executive, who launched the campaign, commended the Company for its vision and role in the promotion of sanitation, hygiene and clean communities for national development.

He said active participation of other stakeholders was critical to complementing government’s solid waste management efforts adding that the initiative of Smiling Point and Investment Company Limited was, therefore, timely and commendable.

Mr Essuman said the Assembly would not hesitate to prosecute residents in the Municipality who flouted its environmental sanitation bye-laws.

He said the Assembly would also not renege on its efforts to sensitize the public on the need for good sanitation and enforce the bye- laws.

He expressed the Assembly’s readiness to collaborate fully with the managers of the Project to ensure its success and sustainability.

Mr Kofi Akyen Wilson, the Executive Director of the Company, bemoaned the poor sanitation situation in Saltpond resulting in major public health hazards.

He said the project would be extended to other communities in the Municipality to contribute to government’s effort at building resilient communities free of disease and ill health.

Mr Wilson admonished Ghanaians to have a change in attitude and endeavour to adhere to government policies regarding sanitation.

He advised the public to desist from littering the streets and ensure proper sanitation management in their homes.

Nana Kwesi Brebo III, the Acting President of the Nkusukom Traditional Area, pledged the support of the Traditional Council to solve the environmental and sanitation problems facing the area.
