Senior Presidential Staffer, Nana Yaa Jantuah, has criticised individuals advocating for the reinstatement of the dismissed Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, arguing that such calls reflect a lack of respect for Ghana’s Constitution.
Speaking on TV3 on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Nana Jantuah stressed that Justice Torkornoo’s dismissal followed due constitutional processes and was not an arbitrary decision.
She maintained that calls for reinstatement undermine the supremacy of the Constitution.
“If anybody respects the laws of this nation, if anybody respects the Constitution, that person will never say that the woman should be brought back. Anybody who thinks they can bring her back can do so, but it’s none of anybody’s business,” she stated.

She added that accepting such demands would imply that “the Constitution we have is neither here nor there, or you don’t even respect the Constitution.”
The former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) also criticised those questioning the credibility of the committee that investigated the petitions leading to Torkornoo’s removal.
According to her, the committee comprised highly reputable individuals who strictly adhered to constitutional guidelines.

“Anybody who tries to denigrate this committee is problematic. These people on the committee have repeatedly been described as credible, so I don’t see why they should be denigrated in any manner,” she said.
Justice Torkornoo was removed from office by the President on Monday, September 1, 2025, following a report from a committee that investigated three separate petitions for her dismissal.
A statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, affirmed that the President acted in accordance with Article 146(9) of the 1992 Constitution.
The committee, after reviewing evidence in the first petition filed by Daniel Ofori, established stated misbehaviour on the part of the Chief Justice and consequently recommended her removal.
