THE MIRROR

"Woman dies in abortion bid", is the headline of an inside page story of the Mirror which says a 31-year-old woman, Hagar Frimpong has died after third unsuccessful attempt to terminate her three-month-old pregnancy, allegedly on the insistence of her boy-friend, Kwame Boadi. The Mirror says a family source disclosed that about eight months ago, Boadi whose wife was then pregnant, fell in love with Hagar. The source told the Mirror that both Boadi and Hagar who lived at Anyaa, near Accra, were enjoying their relationship until Hagar informed Boadi that she was pregnant. According to the source, Boadi then told Hagar that he was married and that his wife was also pregnant so she should terminate hers. To help terminate the pregnancy, Boadi was said to have prepared a concoction from fresh leaves of a 'nim' tree, ginger, pepper and lime for Hagar to drink. When nothing happened, Boadi allegedly asked Hagar to take another medicine which also did not work. Later, Boadi promised to buy Hagar a more potent drug to terminate the pregnancy but since he could not raise money to buy it, he advised Hagar to repeat the first concoction, which she did. GRI
