The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to use money from the Maxwell Mahama endowment fund to purchase a house for the wife and children of the murdered soldier.

According to him, in no time, the Ghana Armed Forces will be evicting the wife of the lynched soldier from his official bungalow, a situation that can make life for her and the children unbearable.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday June 9, Mr Mornah said: “Now we must all think of where the wife and children will be living. In the next three months the Ghana Armed Forces will be writing to the wife that she should vacate the bungalow and so we need to find a place where the wife and children can stay.

“I would suggest that President Akufo-Addo use the endowment fund to purchase a house for the wife and the children to live in.”

President Akufo-Addo announced a GHS500,000 trustee fund to be set up for the Mahama family.

The president personally pledged to donate seed capital of GHS50,000 for the fund when he spoke at the residence of the bereaved family in Accra on Monday, June 5.

The late Major Maxwell Mahama will be buried today, Friday June 9, at the Osu Military Cemetery with full military honours after a vigil was held in his honour on Thursday night.

As part of the burial ceremony, some roads in the capital have now been closed to motorists.
