The Deputy Minister of Defence, Brogya Genfi, has shared receipts of his asset declaration to refute claims that he failed to comply with President John Dramani Mahama’s directive requiring all appointees to declare their assets.
On February 18, 2025, President Mahama, while declaring his assets, warned that he will take drastic and extreme measures against any appointee who fail to declare their assets by a March 31, 2025, deadline he had set.
He stated that those who do not comply with the directive could face removal from office.
“I've asked the Chief of Staff to send word to all appointees to ensure that they declare their assets by the end of the first quarter of this year, that is by 31st March 2025. I wish to stress that any appointee failing to meet this deadline would face severe sanctions, not excluding removal from office,” he stated.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Brogya Genfi shared what appears to be a receipt issued by the Ghana Audit Service, dated March 28, 2025, and bearing the signature of the Auditor-General.
The official receipt, which also bears the inscription "Declaration of Asset and Liability under Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution," appears to acknowledge receipt of Brogya Genfi’s asset declaration.
The receipt details the date of the declaration, the name of the declarant, the position held, as well as information about the witnesses present during the process, including their names and occupations.
The March 28, 2025, date on the receipt appears to suggest that Brogya Genfi may have complied with the directive, indicating that he possibly declared his assets.
Furthermore, according to the receipt, the process was witnessed by a public servant identified as Fatawu Saddiq Abubakar.
Meanwhile, other appointees are reported to have not yet complied with the president’s directive and are still yet to declare their assets.
