Fire Officer warns public

Tema, Sept. 5, GNA - Fire broke out in a house at Tema Community Three Site "B" in the early hours of Friday, destroying property running into millions of cedis. There was no casualty.

Occupants of the house said they saw thick smoke followed by fire at about 0440 hours and with the help of neighbours firemen were invited and their prompt response saved it from spreading from the kitchen where it started to the sitting room and the chambers.

All items in the kitchen were burnt beyond recognition. Mr Theophilus Kyei, father of the house, expressed gratitude to the Tema Firemen, who were assisted by their colleagues from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

Mr Kyei said a gas cooker, which was left on by the users, caused the fire.

The Reverend Canon D. K. Ansah, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, warned the public against the misuse of emergency telephone lines. Speaking to the GNA at the scene of the fire outbreak he complained that the Service normally receives false telephone calls in which the callers either insult the staff or talk about irrelevant issues. Rev. Ansah advised the public to always remember to put out gas cookers and electrical gadgets to ensure the safety of their lives and property.
