Bolgatanga Students Taking Guns To School?

Winkogo(U/E) The Headmaster of the Bolgatanga Secondary School, Mr. Francis Avonsige has warned that any student caught with a knife, gun or pistol in the school would be handed over to the police without family arbitration. Addressing parents at a meeting at the school, Mr Avonsige said some students fire shots to warn off masters any time they were being driven out of their dormitories to attend evening classes. He said the good behaviour of students is not the responsibility of the school authorities alone and urged parents to instil discipline in their wards. Mr Avonsige asked parents to visit the school regularly to acquaint themselves with their children's work and encourage them to do better. He assured the parents that teachers found wanting in the discharge of their duties would be replaced to improve academic standards. The teachers are working overtime to make up for the academic year since students would now be taking their examinations in June and not November, he added. Mr Avonsige pleaded with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to provide the school with toilet facilities, street lights and temporary classrooms.
