Media personality, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, has questioned Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, over the benefits his subjects in the Bono Region derive from his constant attacks on the Asantehene.
According to Afrifa-Mensah, the Dormaahene's criticisms and attacks on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in the past were to secure political advantage for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He, however, said he cannot understand why the chief continues with such commentary despite the NDC now being in power.
Afrifa-Mensah argued that Dormaahene had a great opportunity during his speech at the launch of the Bonokyempem Council in the Bono Region to rally his people around issues of development but instead chose to revisit the controversy surrounding Asantehene and the Golden Stool.
The Golden Stool looks welded; nobody can command anything from the skies – Dormaahene claims
Speaking on his For the Records show on August 19, 2025, Afrifa-Mensah stated, "Nana Dormaahene, respectfully, if the Golden Stool is from the sky or not, then so what? The conversations you were having, what beneficial interest will that bring to the Bono people? There are a lot of pressing issues you could have addressed instead of talking about the Golden Stool.
"You had the perfect opportunity to talk about development and how to support the region, but what you did instead was driven by personal interest. What have you done for the people of Dormaa to show off?"
He continued, "Whether the Golden Stool came from the skies or not, it belongs to the Asantes and nothing else.
"You started this attack four years ago, but still, John Mahama continues to engage with the Asantes. Aren't you tired, Nana Dormaahene? You did this for the NDC, and now that the NDC is in power, you are still attacking the Asantes."
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II has cast doubt on the historical narrative surrounding the Golden Stool of the Ashanti people, known as Sika Dwa Kofi.
According to him, there is no truth in the claim that a spiritual being can summon objects from the sky into physical existence.
He argued that the Golden Stool, which legend says was commanded down from the skies by the high priest Okomfo Anokye, looked welded when it was recently displayed publicly.
Speaking during the launch of the Bonokyempem Council in the Bono Region on August 14, 2025, the Dormaahene, who is also known in legal circles as Justice Daniel Mensah and currently serves as a High Court Judge, said, "If anyone tells you they can summon something to descend from the sky, I, Agyeman Badu II, am saying it is a lie.
Nana Obiri Boahen responds to Dormaahene's 'welded Golden Stool' comment
"Didn't you see when the Golden Stool was recently outdoored, it looked welded. Didn't you see?"
Historical accounts, however, state that the Golden Stool descended in a cloud of white dust amidst thunder and landed on the lap of the first Asante king, Osei Tutu, by the command of Okomfo Anokye.
The Dormaahene has, over the years, been an outspoken critic of what he considers distorted narratives in Ghana's history, often challenging long-held cultural and historical beliefs.
