Asunafo District records 115 buruli ulcer cases

Goaso (B/A), Sept 27, GNA -- A total of 115 cases of buruli ulcer were recorded in the Asunafo district of the Brong Ahafo region between January and April this year.

Dr Badu Sarkodie, Asunafo District Director of Health Services, said at Goaso that half of the cases has been treated by the District Health Management Team in Kukoum, Asarekrom, Goaso, Noberkaw and Kwapong.

Dr Sarkodie said the Ministry of Health has provided the Asunafo DMHT with adequate logistics for the treatment of the disease. He therefore called on those suffering from the disease to report for treatment at the camps and advised that personal and environmental hygiene should be adhered to in order to control the spread of the disease.

The DHMT has started an immunisation exercise in about 200 communities of the Goaso district against the six-infant killer diseases. Mr Thomas Dery, Asunafo District Disease Control Officer, said the team has covered communities in four out of the five health sub-districts.

These are Akrodie, Kukuom, Goaso and Sankore. He said the team would move to Kasapin, the fifth district, by the end of next week. Mr Dery said the polio immunization programme in the district would commence on November six and end on December 11, this year.

He therefore called on parents to send their children to immunisation centres on the specified days without fail.
