Bawumia is a political lying economist - Kofi Adams

Campaign Coordinator and National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams says it will only take a political lying economist like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to say that government is hoodwinking Ghanaians with its infrastructural development.

The running mate of the opposition NPP in his presentation on Thursday watered down the achievements of the current NDC administration.

He said President Mahama is “hoodwinking” Ghanaians by citing some supposed achievements, when in fact, he has achieved less, relative to the amount of money borrowed for infrastructural projects.

“If you compare the total cost of infrastructure expenditure from loans, from taxes, and from grants from 2009 to 2016, it is less than $7 billion; meanwhile, the government has borrowed $39 billion,” he said; quizzing, “So where is the rest of the money?”

Responding to the former governor of the Central Bank, Kofi Adams in an interview with Kwame Tutu said loans contracted by government for infrastructural projects do not generate the resources for repayment almost immediately.

Citing the one-million-dollar investment made into the Atuabo gas project, he said the project would be able to repay the loan over the seven-year span and the remaining years of operation would generate profits.

Kofi Adams said, "it can only take a political lying economist to say such a thing. If you go for a loan to construct an airport, you don't expect that you will gain profits in a year. Tamale Airport will be there forever.

More planes will land there. And when landing, they would be paying a landing fee. We will also gain more profits on other services. That is how the Airport is going to pay the loan contracted... Every country that has developed has invested in infrastructure over a certain period, and that is what has generated enough revenue for the development of these countries."

Kofi Adams has warned voters to be careful about the NPP and its promises since a vote for the NPP will spell doom for the country. He described Nana Addo as an inexperienced person as compared to President Mahama.

The NPP under Nana Addo and his running, he said, is divided, and a vote for the two will be disastrous. ''They will divide this country. We know the record of the NPP. They sold Ghana Telecom which is now Vodafone; they sold Ghana Airways which is now a restaurant...President Mahama is already building hospitals, schools, and other projects... President Mahama is revamping the Railway lines which were sold as scraps under the NPP. And you want us to remove this experienced leader from office and bring in a try me and see president? No, Ghanaians will not do that. Former President Rawlings and Kufuor were both given an eight-year term. So why should President Mahama not be given a second for his remarkable record."
