Rev. Father Andrew Campbell, renowned humanitarian and former Parish Priest of Christ the King Catholic Church, has revealed a remarkable act of generosity by Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Father Campbell recounted how Dr. Bawumia personally funded the completion of his church project in Weija.
According to Father Campbell, the former vice president visited the unfinished church and immediately inquired about the cost of completing the structure. “He asked me, Father, how much it will cost to complete? I said it will cost 1.5 million. He said come to my house; he gave me the money so we can complete the church,” he explained.
Father Campbell disclosed that Dr. Bawumia ultimately offered even more than requested. “He gave me 1.7 million, that’s what he gave to me,” he said, noting that the team now has about GH₵200,000 left, but still needs an additional GH₵200,000 to complete the toilet facilities.
The priest used the moment to highlight the importance of mutual respect across political and religious divides. He referenced his longstanding relationship with the National Chief Imam as another example of unity in practice. “The Chief Imam; I’ve been to his house many times. When it was his 100th birthday, he came to Christ the King that morning and I gave him blessing,” he said, adding that he continues to visit the Islamic leader regularly.
