The Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has denied claims made by one of the unpaid nurses during a picketing at the Ministry of Finance.

The nurse in question alleged that her MP, Asenso-Boakye, told her that if they were not paid by the 2024 elections, they could choose not to participate in the voting process.

“… As I speak, my NSS allowance was never paid. My MP told me that if my colleagues and I don’t want to vote because of the unpaid salaries, then we can decide not to vote. I can mention his name, he is Hon Asenso-Boakye, the MP for Bantama. He told me that,” the nurse alleged.

However, in a sharp rebuttal on his Facebook page on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Asenso-Boakye described the claims as ‘false, baseless and propaganda’.

He denied having any such encounter with the said lady or any nursing student regarding issues of unpaid allowances.

“My attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media in which a young lady, claiming to be a student nurse, alleges that during the election period she approached me over unpaid nursing trainee allowances, and I told her: “if she won’t vote because her allowance has not been paid, then that is fine.”

“For the avoidance of doubt: I have never had any such encounter or conversation with this individual, nor with any student nurse, regarding allowances,” he posted.

The lawmaker also stated that his constituency does not have a nursing training college.

He indicated that although the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has a nursing school, it does not fall within his constituency, further corroborating his claims.

“There is no nursing training institution in my constituency, Bantama. While Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has a nursing school, it does not fall under the Bantama constituency. I therefore have no direct constituency dealings with nursing trainees. In all my years of public service — as a legislator, a former Minister of State, and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency — I have never been responsible for the administration of nursing trainee allowances, nor have I had any direct portfolio in the health sector,” he stated.

“This allegation is false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to drag my name into needless political propaganda. I urge the public to disregard it completely. Anyone who knows the identity of the lady in the said video should kindly provide her details,” he added.
