Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed in a brief ceremony in the Parliament of Ghana was officially sworn in as Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East Constituency.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, who presided over the event led Baba Jamal to solemnly swear the oath of office and the oath of allegiance, to formally mark the commencement of his role in the chamber.

This moment comes after Baba Jamal's recent victory in a by-election triggered by the passing of the previous MP, Naser Toure Mahama, in January 2026.

The contest saw Baba Jamal secure a strong win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reflecting the trust voters placed in him to represent them in Parliament.

Speaker Bagbin offered the new MP some direct, fatherly advice after the oaths, urging him to stay grounded in his promises and priorities.

“During your campaign, you promised the people of Ayawaso East that you wanted to serve them as a Member of Parliament, and by doing so, serve Ghana. You don’t want to serve Ghana as a High Commissioner in Nigeria,” the Speaker said.

The words carried a clear reminder: the job is about showing up for the constituents of Ayawaso East first, tackling their everyday needs, listening to their concerns, and working tirelessly on their behalf, rather than eyeing distant postings or personal ambitions.

For Baba Jamal, a lawyer, former MP, and someone with diplomatic experience, this swearing-in represents a return to the frontline of parliamentary service.

It's a fresh chapter where the focus must remain on genuine representation of constituents and national duty.

In a busy political landscape, this quiet ceremony stands as a reminder of Baba Jamal’s renewed commitment to Ayawaso East constituents.
