President Mahama dissolves National Sports Authority Board

President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) as part of a wider shake-up involving the governing boards of nine state institutions.

The dissolution of the NSA Board takes immediate effect, according to a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

The NSA, which plays a key role in the management and development of sports infrastructure and the organisation of major sporting events in Ghana, is among institutions whose boards have been dissolved.

Other affected institutions include the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Ghana Post Company Limited, TDC Ghana Limited, Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited and the Road Maintenance Trust Fund.

Relevant sector ministers have been directed to take the necessary steps, in accordance with the applicable laws and governing instruments, to give effect to the dissolution.

The government says the affected boards will be reconstituted in due course.

The development comes at a significant time for Ghanaian sports, with the country preparing for several major sporting projects and events, including preparations linked to Ghana’s hosting of the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The NSA has also remained central to discussions surrounding the maintenance and improvement of sporting facilities across the country.
