NPP has a solid petition - Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has reiterated his support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) challenge of the results of the 2012 election at the Supreme Court.

The former president said: “from what I have seen of the pleadings, I am telling you it’s a very solid petition the party put together and submitted to the Supreme Court”.

The former president was speaking on Citi Fm in Accra on Tuesday following suggestions that his appearance at the presidential inauguration ceremony create doubts about his support of the NPP to seek an overturn of the results of the 2012 elections announced by the Electoral Commission (EC).

He said his attendance of the inaugural ceremony of President John Dramani Mahama does not change his call for the party to seek judicial opinion on the disputed election attend in his capacity as a member of the NPP.

Mr Kufuor in a pale voice called on the Supreme Court to do its work with all diligence to ensure fairness, adding that “my prayer is that the Supreme Court will do its work very honestly and properly for the sake of peace and stability of our country.”

A group of supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday converged at the residence of the former President John Agyekum Kufuor in a last minute attempt to prevent him from attending the inaugural ceremony of John Mahama.

The attempt by the supporters was after a similar one by a pro-NPP group, Young Patriots, who vowed to restrain the former President from attending the inauguration owing to the Supreme Court petition sent by the party leadership contesting the outcome of the 2012 polls.
