Coordinaing Forum On Decentralization Underway In Accra

Accra, Aug. 20, - A two-day co-ordinating forum aimed at finding solutions to nagging problems in the government's decentralisation process began in Accra today. The participants include major stakeholders in the process including senior managers of state institutions. They are tasked to fashion out strategies in an action plan for addressing outstanding issues awaiting implementation. The participants are also expected to ensure consistency in phasing and approach towards the attainment of decentralisation objectives of Ghana's Vision 2020. The Forum is jointly organised by the National Institutional Renewal Programme (NIRP) and the British Department for International Development (DFID). Dr Appiah Koranteng, National Co-Ordinator of NIRP, said the forum is ''therefore a major stride in the implementation of government's policy on decentralisation. ''This is a bold but comprehensive attempt at finding solutions to the deep-seated problems hindering the full implementation of the administrative reforms in decentralisation'', he added.
