Retired Justice of the Supreme Court, William Atuguba, must be compelled to provide evidence to support his claim that attempts were made by some individuals to offer money to Supreme Court judges in order to obtain favourable judgments in legal cases, Kwaku Asare, a U.S.-based Ghanaian professor and private legal practitioner, has said.

Justice Atuguba said at a lecture organised by the Catholic Church in Accra on Wednesday, 12 December 2018 that: “Apart from political challenges in the cases I sat on, there were other challenges: you can’t believe that some people will even dare try to induce even Supreme Court judges with money to decide cases in their favour.”

In a Facebook post, Prof Asare said: “According to Justice Atuguba, ‘Some people will even dare try to induce even Supreme Court judges with money to decide cases in their favour.’”

“This is a very serious allegation coming from a Supreme Court Judge. I believe he should be compelled to give further and better particulars of such attempts, as they are clearly criminal and his failure to report the crimes to the police makes him, at the very least, guilty of obstructing justice, misprisoning felony.”
