Arab Spring In Ghana: Deserted Mahama needs support - Expert

Recent ominous predictions of dark clouds forming over Ghana that requires fervent prayers and urgent measures by the Head of Legal Department of Agriculture Development Bank (ADB), James Agbedor; Managing Editor of The aL-hAJJ newspaper, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu and Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams of Action Chapel International seem to be approaching faster than thought, this paper has gathered.

Reports reaching The aL-hAJJ, nearly confirming the prophesies by the aforementioned three eminent Ghanaians indicate that the nation may be sitting on a time bomb; as some political miscreants and renegades, mostly from the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their backers from the civil society, the clergy, the academia and the media, are desperately plotting to turn back the clock of the nation’s democratic progress and plunge the country into a state of lawlessness.

Credible intelligence indicates that they are working assiduously to topple the less- than-two-year-old Mahama-led administration in a Ukraine/Arab Spring-style civilian political insurrection.

“They have intensified their evil plot following the recent happenings in neighboring Burkina Faso…they feel emboldened now since similar situation has happened in the neighboring country just next door,” a source told this paper on condition of anonymity.

These nation-wreckers are said to have, as part of an already elaborate, worked-out agenda and well-rehearsed plan to package President Mahama and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as filthy corrupt and misfit for administering the country in the coming days, plan to plunge the country into deep political crisis with the hope of pushing out President Mahama and his NDC government from power.

The reason for this potential treasonable behavior from the NPP and their allies in the political game is that they are convinced the 2016 election is a fait accompli for President Mahama and his NDC party and so the only means of getting a taste of power is through unorthodox means.

Leading the opposition-instigated and sponsored plot is policy think tank IMANI Ghana, OccupyGhana (formerly OccupyFlagstaffHouse), self-acclaimed independent political analysts, some members of academia, NPP allies within the clergy and their media surrogates.

Drawing inspiration from the Arab Spring-like mass insurrection in Burkina Faso that toppled President Blaise Campoare's 27 year rule, these anti-Mahama crusaders, according to this paper’s reliable sources, recently met to firm up their tactics as revealed in the March 11, May 15, June 5 and August 6 editions of The aL-hAJJ.

Intelligence picked up indicates that the group, backed by a certain senior politician of Ghana known for his prowess in violent agitations in the past has decided to resurrect the defunct Association of Professional Bodies, similar to the one that fought Generals Acheampong and Akufo’s NRC and SMC governments.

A governance expert explained to this paper that part of the reason why the Mahama government seems vulnerable to this dastardly act of anarchy from its opponents, the civil society, the clergy and some influential members of the society is that the President has decided to stuff his administration with people of low social and political substance pushing the strong and the influential ones on the fence playing the role of spectators.

“Time-tested strategists and hardliners, the likes of Totobi Kwakye, Dr Tony Aidoo, the Ahwoi brothers, General Smith, Ama Benyiwa Doe, Dr Kwabena Adjei, General Mosquito, Dr. Don Arthur, Koku Anyidoho, Larry Gbevlo Lartey, General Nunoo Mensah and many others have either been pushed aside completely by the President or are re-assigned to positions very remote to the center of power in the Mahama administration.

“The President has no defense so far as I’m concerned at this moment. Those defending the President now have very limited voice in the society so far as governance is concern. That explained why some people may contemplate plotting strategy to overthrow him and his government using mass action like what happened recently in Burkina Faso…

“It was a strategically big mistake for the President to surround himself with only young and inexperienced people. Now it is almost impossible to reverse the situation because governance has no room for try and error. He is to blame for all these and so he must brace himself for whatever happens in the coming days and weeks,” the expert who wants his identity shielded told this paper.

According to another source, the plotters of the ‘civil coup,’ aside moves to stage simultaneous mega demonstrations across the country to make the country ungovernable, are also said to have been goaded by the actions of the Burkinabes and have tinged their strategy in collaboration with the various labor unions in the country to push for mass agitations nationwide.

Confirming what The aL-hAJJ revealed early this year of mass strike actions, demonstrations and attempts by middle-class to occupy the seat of government under the guise of protesting against Cedi depreciation and economic hardship in the country, the source disclosed that to keep this dream afloat, IMANI Ghana and OccupyGhana have been tasked to mount severe pressure on government through relentless organization of symposia and demonstrations to paint the Mahama government in dark colors.

On their part, pro-NPP pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) and NPP communicators have been instructed to tacitly support the work of both IMANI Ghana and OccupyGhana in the attempt to topple the Mahama government.

According to the source, in some instances, the above-mentioned political pressure groups are to stage simultaneous attacks on the Mahama government, in order to make it vulnerable for mass actions and eventual collapse.

“They are to unleash a torrent of attacks and fire on the Mahama administration that could lead to mass insurrection before the 2016 elections.

The country needs prayers because our democracy is in danger of being undermined and the Fourth Republican Constitution suspended by these political hoodlums. They hope to repeat what happened in Burkina Foso recently, in this country… They are using corruption, incompetence and economic hardship as their rallying slogans. Is just a matter of days and not weeks or months for something calamitous to befall this government if urgent security and political measures are not taken by the Mahama administration. It happened to former President Hilla Liman before. The signs are similar so we should not overlook things,” the source told this paper.

Recent strike actions by 12 labor unions over the tier 2 pension fund coupled with a symposium jointly organized by OccupyGhana and IMANI-Ghana on corruption, made up of speakers who have shown their disdain for the NDC government, according to sources are part of plots to give a dog a bad name before it is hanged.

These happenings, some security experts and Ghanaians have warned could be suicidal for the country, especially now that some African countries have set examples of toppling their governments through mass protests.

The Ghanaian Times last month reported the Head of Legal Department of ADB, Mr Agbedor to have called for prayers to avert danger, as revealed to him in a vision.

Mr Agbedor added that there is a danger hanging over the country, and the only way to avert a catastrophe is through prayers.

The sentiment was later to be expressed by Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams who said forces of darkness are plotting to cause severe problems to befall the nation and prevent it from progressing.

According to him, the forces are bent on ensuring that no amount of intervention from donor organizations and development can rescue the nation, should such calamities occur.
