Appoint Rawlings chancellor of UDS - TEIN

The Tertiary Education Institutional Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), University for Development Studies (UDS) branch, has suggested that former President Jerry John Rawlings should be appointed Chancellor of the UDS.

A congratulatory statement signed by the presidents of TEIN at Tamale, Nyankpala, Navrongo and Wa campuses of the UDS, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Wednesday said, former President Rawlings deserved more than the honourary doctorate degree conferred on him by the UDS last Saturday.

The statement, however, commended the Council of the UDS for recognizing and showing appreciation for the good work done by the former president.

It described him as a visionary leader, who despite the odds, made the right decision by establishing the UDS for the training of the country’s human resource and more particularly offering higher education in northern Ghana.

The statement said he donated 50, 000.00 dollars prize money from the Africa Prize for the Sustainable End of Hunger in 1993 to the UDS.

It said: “we as students of UDS acknowledge the humanitarian gesture by former President Rawlings and wish to congratulate him on the hard earned and deserving award from the Council of the UDS.”
