The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Archbishop Julien Kaboré, has commended President John Dramani Mahama and his government for their commitment to the dignity of the human person, the welfare of citizens and the promotion of peace and stability.

Archbishop Kaboré expressed particular appreciation for the support extended by President Mahama and the government to faith-based institutions and initiatives aimed at promoting national cohesion, stressing that the welfare and dignity of human beings must remain at the heart of governance and public service.

He was speaking at the installation of Most Reverend John Alphonse Asiedu,SVD of the newly established Catholic Diocese of Donkorkrom.

“We pray for the government machinery and for President Mahama, so that together we can work for peace to prevail in our region,” Archbishop Kaboré said.

He expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the support and goodwill extended to the Church and other faith communities, describing such collaboration as important in confronting challenges that affect society and strengthening peaceful coexistence.

The Nuncio also praised the work of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, for his efforts to deepen dialogue and cooperation among Ghana’s religious communities and traditional authorities.

He thanked Afriyie-Ankrah for his role in bringing faith leaders together and for creating platforms through which religious leaders could engage the government on issues affecting the nation and the wider region.

His remarks come against the backdrop of growing calls for stronger collaboration among governments, religious institutions and traditional authorities in addressing conflicts and other threats to peace in West Africa.

The Archbishop has previously highlighted the importance of peace, human dignity and solidarity in responding to challenges confronting communities in the region. During a visit to Ghana’s Upper East Region, he also expressed appreciation to the Ghanaian Government and people for their hospitality and assistance to people fleeing instability in Burkina Faso.

His latest message therefore reinforces the growing recognition of Ghana as a country where religious and traditional leaders can work alongside the state to strengthen peace, social cohesion and national development.

Archbishop Kaboré, a Burkinabè prelate and experienced Vatican diplomat, was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana by the Holy See in June 2024 and elevated to the dignity of Archbishop.

Before his appointment to Ghana, he served in various diplomatic missions of the Holy See, including Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Costa Rica, South Korea, Croatia, Trinidad and Tobago, the Philippines and Ireland.

Concluding his remarks, the Nuncio expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, the entire government machinery, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah and the traditional leaders present, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to working with all stakeholders for the promotion of peace, unity and the welfare of humanity.
