The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced a successful operation by a joint anti-galamsey task force to reclaim two forest reserves in the region.

He shared this update on his X page on Friday, March 7, 2025.

"This morning, a joint anti-galamsey task force comprising National Security, Police, and the Forestry Division carried out a major operation in the Amansie Central forest to reclaim our lands from illegal miners. Excavators seized and currently parked the Police Station and additional excavators demobilized by removing their control boards.

"The operation was successful, and the Forestry Division has been tasked to reclaim the forest immediately. Successfully we have taken over two forest reserves", he stated.

He indicated that the move is part of broader efforts to curb illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’ in the country.

“This is just one of many ongoing operations across the region as we take bold steps to clamp down on illegal mining. There is zero tolerance for mining in our forests, rivers, and along roadsides. Those engaged in these destructive activities will face the full force of the law", he added.

The minister further bemoaned the impact of illegal mining in the region and reaffirmed his commitment to protect the environment.

"We will not relent in this fight to protect our environment, water bodies, and communities from the devastating effects of illegal mining. The time to act is now", he added.
