Black Stars winger, Antoine Semenyo endured a nightmare debut in the UEFA Champions League as Spanish giants Real Madrid beat Manchester City 3-0 at the Bernabéu.
The cagey encounter took place on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in Spain, where the 15-time champions showcased their class with a commanding result despite a squad depleted by injuries. Uruguayan midfielder Fede Valverde’s hat-trick sealed an emphatic victory in the first leg.
Semenyo featured in the game, but his usual influence was missing as he struggled to make inroads against Madrid’s defense.

He started in a role behind striker Erling Haaland but was unable to create chances or deliver passes that could feed the attackers and threaten the Los Blancos backline.
Statistically, the former Bournemouth forward registered two shots, both on target, but failed to find the back of the net, with an expected goal rate of 0.13.
He also completed two successful dribbles, made 39 touches in total, five inside the opposition box and completed 21 of his 26 passes.
Despite his offensive efforts, he contributed defensively by tracking back and tackling opponents, winning eight duels and committing two fouls in an attempt to limit Madrid’s threat.
Positionally, he was switched several times in attack, operating from the right wing, the left, and occasionally through the middle to try and penetrate the defense.
He created a big chance in the second half and came close to scoring, but was denied by Thibaut Courtois.
In the 70th minute, head coach Pep Guardiola substituted the winger late in the game to bring on fresh legs, but the scoreline remained 3-0.
Based on his performance on the night, he earned a rating of 6.5.
It is worth noting that the entire Manchester City players underperformed, which led to the humiliating defeat.
