The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging the general public to treat Nana Akufo-Addo’s commanding lead in Wednesday’s presidential poll as declared by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with the contempt that it deserves.

On Thursday, the NPP at a press conference address by its National Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku, announced that the elephant family’s presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo has taken a commanding lead with 5,441,642 in Wednesday presidential poll.

The figure, he noted, was collated from the 27,577 pink sheets (representing 94.32%) declared at each polling station and submitted to their collation centers across the country.

According to Awuku, per their analysis of the pink sheets, President John Dramani Mahama who is representing the NDC is trailing Akufo-Addo with 4,497,477 votes.

But the NDC in a swift response, said such claims by the NPP is a hoax, claiming that it is rather their candidate, President John Dramani who is leading the poll.

“Their figures are wrong figures; they are fake figures. We are doing our analysis and President Mahama is leading Akufo-Addo. Out of 166 constituencies that we have done so far, the NDC or President Mahama has 50.6% and Akufo-Addo is at 49.04%.

So President Mahama is leading Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP must stop throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians,” Koku Anyidoho, a deputy General Secretary of the NDC who addressed the press conference noted.

Anyidoho worried about the claims of the NPP therefore called on the security agencies strengthen their measures aimed at maintaining peace and order in the country.
