Akufo-Addo is not dead – Sir John

General Secretary of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has laughed off rumours on social media site Facebook that the party’s 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is dead.

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie told XYZ Breakfast Show Host Moro Awudu on Wednesday June 12, 2013 that the party is aware of the Facebook rumours and gossips about Nana Akufo-Addo’s apparent death.

“…I laugh over these matters because the man is doing very well,” Owusu Afriyie scoffed.

He gave the assurance that Nana Akufo-Addo is “as fit as a fiddle and will come back home to continue the court process”.

‘Sir John’, as he is popularly known, claimed some members and deputy ministers of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) are those fuelling Akufo-Addo’s death rumours on Facebook.

“We know where these things are emanating from and I thought that the NDC and their deputy ministers who are in charge of these malicious postings will be very careful,” he warned.

He, however, shrugged off the death rumours saying: “…We are not worried”.

Nana Akufo-Addo flew out to the United Kingdom for medical check-up last week Tuesday.

A statement issued by his Press Secretary, Herbert Krapa, said Nana Akufo-Addo is expected back home this week.
