Nigerian To Be Deported After Serving Sentence

Cape Coast (Central Region), 27 Oct.

A Cape Coast circuit court has fined Paulinius Okoro, a 21-year-old Nigerian 60,000 cedis or to three months' imprisonment in default . Okoro who pleaded guilty to the charge of preparation to commit crime will be repatriated after serving the jail term. The court presided over by Mr. Tom Bentsil acquitted and discharged Baba Abubakari, a Ghanaian charged with Okoro for lack of evidence. Police Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court that Okoro met Abubakari, a receptionist, and promised to offer him employment. Okoro told Abubakari that he had 300,000 dollars in a box which he wanted to leave with someone who could give him 300,000 cedis to keep the box until he returned to collect it. Mr. Amonoo said Abubakari gave Okoro 120,000 cedis to defray his hotel expenses. Okoro then asked Abubakari to take possession of the box which he refused and demanded that Okoro offer him employment. An argument ensued between them at the Cape Coast Tantri lorry station on Saturday September 13, which attracted a lot of people and the police was alerted. When police arrived at the scene and Okoro was made to open the box it was found to have been stuffed with kapok, a piece of wood and only three dollars.
