Dnagme West Assembly Identify's Tourist Spots

Dodowa (G/A), Aug. 13, - The Dangme West District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has identified five potential tourist spots for development. The areas are Tsenku, Koklobor and Agomeda water falls, the Kasunya lagoon and Kewungwa Island, all in the Asutsuare zone. Mr H.S.C. Fancey, district cultural officer, told the Ghana News Agency at Dodowa today, that the Kewungwa Island would be developed for boat racing and angling. The Dodowa forest itself has tourist potentials apart from its historical importance of being a battle field for the Shais in 1886. Mr Fancey observed that the Shai Hills with numerous caves like the Hioweyo cave as well as other relics can also be developed as a tourist site. ''The district assembly is sitting on gold, as far as tourism potentials in the area are concerned.'' He, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Tourism to help develop the areas so far mapped out as a means of expanding its scope of activities. ''A report on the latest tourist find has been submitted to the appropriate authorities for study and implementation,'' he added.
