Boy 13, in Court for Stealing Mobile Phone

A 13 year-old primary four pupil, who stole a mobile phone belonging to a student of the University of Cape Coast while running an errand for her, was on Monday arraigned at a Community Tribunal at Cape Coast.

In the dock with the boy was Ebenezer Acquah, alias Jojo, unemployed, who was charged with dishonestly receiving the phone.

The boy pleaded guilty and the tribunal presided over by Mr Peter Asare-Duah bonded him to be of good behaviour for a year and put him on a three million-cedi bail, pending a later sentence at a juvenile court and the disposal of the charge against Acquah.

Acquah, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of dishonestly receiving, was remanded in custody until June 18.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Henry Tanor told the tribunal that on May 11, the student Miss Elaine Foxon-Owoo, asked the boy, who normally runs errands for the students to send a tuber of yam to her roommate.

He said Miss Foxon-Owoo later went to her room and detected that her mobile phone valued at two million cedis was missing and suspected the boy of taking it.

She, therefore, made a report to the Police, who arrested the boy and questioned him. The boy admitted taking it and giving it to Acquah.

Chief Inspector Tanor said Acquah, however, denied taking any phone from the boy. He said he had collected a toy mobile phone a month earlier from another boy. GNA
