The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, has been sworn in as a Notary Public.
She was among other public officials who took the oath of office at a ceremony administered by the Acting Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.
In a social media post announcing the development, the Ghana Prisons Service shared photos from the event with the caption: "Director-General of Prisons Sworn in as a Notary Public.β
Under the laws of Ghana, specifically the Notaries Public Act, 1960 (Act 26), the Chief Justice is empowered to appoint persons deemed fit and proper to the office of Notary Public.

The law further stipulates that only lawyers of high moral character, proven integrity, and at least ten yearsβ standing at the Bar may be appointed.
Notably, the Acting Chief Justice who administered the oath, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, is the husband of Patience Baffoe-Bonnie.

A Notary Public is a person authorised by a State to administer oaths, certify documents, attest to authenticity of signatures and perform official acts in commercial matters such as protecting negotiable instruments.
