Acheampong, Limann's children called to the bar

The General Legal Council (GLC) on Friday, enrolled 85 lawyers, including Elizabeth Nana Serwaa Acheampong and Leda Hasila Limann, daughters of former heads of state, General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong and Dr Hilla Limann.

The new lawyers, 34 of whom were women undertook to give off their best at a colourful induction ceremony witnessed by the Vice-President John Evans Atta Mills.

Mr. Justice Edward Wiredu, acting Chairman of the Council who swore-in the lawyers, urged them to regard their passing out as a moral, spiritual and intellectual transformation which should make it possible for them to serve the nation.

"You should not look at yourselves as the Lords, but as servants of the society", he said and advised that "this situation necessarily entails humility, tolerance, patience and endurance, which should lead you to achieve greater heights for the community to recognise you as a great man or woman."

Mr. Justice Wiredu, also the acting Chief Justice, took the new lawyers through the ethics and conduct of the profession and reminded them to pay attention to their dressing.

"The legal profession is described as a noble-profession, and I know as a fact that nobility goes with decent appearances and comportment."

He told them to be punctual to their call and to maintain good relationship with their clients, as well as opposing lawyers.

Some 32 Prizes were given out to excelling lawyers with women topping the list. Nana Serwaa Acheampong was among the award winners.
