Hearts Retain Ghana soccer League Cup

Accra - Accra Hearts of Oak has retained Ghana's Premier League trophy despite a 2-1 loss to Obuasi Goldfields in the penultimate match played on Wednesday.

Hearts have an unbeatable 59 points, nine more than their closest rivals Dwarfs and Kotoko who both won their matches. The real battle is at the bottom of the table where two teams would be relegated at the end of the season.

With Afienya United firmly rooted at the bottom, five clubs are sitting tight and their position would be determined only after the closing matches on Sunday.

Dawu have 34 points, only one more than Ghapoha, Power FC and Bofoakwa. All three are separated only by goal difference.

All Blacks have 32 points and could still save themselves from relegation if they should win.

Bofoakwa are in a weak position because their goal difference among the pack is the worst, minus 31. Ghapoha and Power FC have minus nine each as goal difference while Dawu have minus five.

Dwarfs, Kotoko, Real Tamale United and Goldfields are all in contention to play in the CAF competition.

All four teams boosted their chances with victories that make the final matches rather crucial.

Real Tamale United beat Accra Great Olympics 2-0 in Accra, Kotoko beat Okwawu United 2-0 in Kumasi, Goldfields beat Hearts 2-1 in Obuasi while Dwarfs thrashed All Blacks 4-1 in Cape Coast.
