Obidan-Potwaben D/A Primary School burgled

Saltpond (C/R), Feb. 1, GNA - Thieves have broken into the classrooms and the office of the Obidan-Potwaben District Assembly Primary School near Mankessim and made away with a quantity of textbooks and stationery worth millions of cedis.

The thieves also defecated in the headteacher's office. Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Saltpond after reporting the theft to the District Director of Education, Miss Vivian Etroo and the police, Mr Sakyiba Erskine said the theft was detected on Monday when the school reopened after the weekend break.

Mr Erskine who is the Chairman of the Education Sub-committee of the Mfantseman District Assembly said some of the textbooks were supplied to the school only last November.

He said the books had been embossed with the school's rubber stamp and appealed to the general public to report any person found holding any of the books to the police or to the school authorities.

Miss Etroo appealed to school management committees and parent-teacher associations to initiate measures to protect property in their schools. The police have intensified investigations but no arrests have yet been made.
