AFAG Chairman books seat in Parliament

After polling an impressive win at the NPP primaries where he beat the incumbent by 100 votes in a fiercely contested election of 6-candidate race, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, the chairman of the pro-opposition pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has won for Nana Akufo Addo 26574 votes in the Effiduase-Asokore constituency to secure him a seat in parliament. He pulled 83.4% of the votes, the highest record since 1992.

Whereas John Mahama polled 6400 votes in 2012, in 2016 his votes dropped to 5609, while Nana Akufo Addo appreciated to 23000; thus securing 82% of the presidential votes. This is an impressive gain over his 78% in 2012.

Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, a 38-years-old hospital owner and health economist with economic policy background, adds to the list of young parliamentarians in the next parliament which commences on 7 January 2017.
