Government denies selling shares in Ghana Telecom

The Government has denied disposing off part of its 70 percent share in Ghana Telecom to the Malaysian strategic investors who have a 30 per cent stake in the company.

Speculations have been rife that government has sold more shares to the Malaysian investors on the quiet. The Minister of Communications, Mr. John Mahama in an interview with JOY FM said though the government intends to sell off more of its shares in the company, it is yet to take a comprehension decision on the issue. He disclosed that some companies especially from the US and France have indicated their interest in Ghana Telecom. He however added that these interests can only be considered after a firm decision has been taken on the issue. The Malaysian strategic investor has a five-year contract with the government to manage the company with an option of a renewal.
