35 teachers receive awards in Dangme West District

Dodowa (GAR), Dec. 12, GNA - The Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ernestina Afosah-Anim, has urged stakeholders to complemen= t efforts of teachers to achieve full recovery in educational pursuit to facilitate rapid socio-economic development of the nation. She said although full recovery began with the support of teachers, it cannot be sustained without the support of people who matter in the deliv= ery of good quality education.

Mrs Afosa-Anim was speaking as the Guest Speaker at the 2007- 2010 Dangme West District Best Teacher Award ceremony at Dodowa in the Greater=

Accra Region. The event which was on the theme: "Recovery begins with the teacher,= " afforded the award winners the opportunity to take home items such as refrigerators, television sets and cookers. Mrs Afosa-Anim reminded teachers the need to reverse the downward tr= end of education in the district to ensure the speedy development of the area= .. She called for an educational system with the teacher as the major architect to inculcate moral values and environmental consciousness into their pupils to make them responsible citizens in future.

The District Director of Education, Madam Freda Koasi said expectati= ons about Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results have not bee= n met and urged teachers to redouble their efforts to improve the standard of education in the area.

She told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that as part of measu= res to improve the BECE results, her outfit would ensure effective supervisio= n and monitoring in schools and improve on educational infrastructure. The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Emmanuel Nortey said the assembly was poised to rekindle the spirit of hard work among teachers by=

acknowledging and rewarding them for their commitment to duty. The assembly will also build more classroom and teachers' bungalows as incentives to boost education in the area.
