2018 annual communications week launched at AUCC

The Kojo Yankah School of Communication Studies (KYSCS) at the African University College of Communications (AUCC) has officially launched the 2018 Annual Communications Week on Monday, April 23, 2018 under the theme “Connecting and Empowering through Communication” at the Discovery House, Adabraka, Accra.

Delivering the keynote speech at the launch, the Honourable Minister for Information and Spokesperson for the Presidency, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid said though communication is the noblest profession, it is perhaps the most difficult responsibility in any organization.

“Everything that goes wrong is blamed on the Director of Communications or Public Relations Officer and yet when everything goes right, he is the least recognized“.

He wondered why in most institutions, everybody thinks he/she can o the work of the Communications Director. “If you find yourself in the field of communication, you are in a thankless job” he added.

“Communication is not only about what you say but it is also about what people hear or how it is interpreted because how a message is interpreted is sometimes subject to personal biases” he said. Dr. Hamid advised students to read and do more research to broaden their scope of thinking in order to communicate effectively.

The Dean of the Kojo Yankah School of Communication Studies at AUCC, Dr. Herbert Blankson said “one thing that sets us apart as human beings from animals is our ability to communicate meaningfully. That is why it is important that we communicate clearly without any form of ambiguity”. He urged corporate Ghana to collaborate more with tertiary institutions to confront the challenges that face the youth.

On Tuesday, April 24, 2018 students of AUCC will embark on a route march through selected streets of Adabraka and the central business district of Accra after which there will be Inter Class/Session Quiz at the Forecourt of AUCC.

On Wednesday April 25, 2018, Industrial Fair (exhibition of products and services by AUCC students and corporate Ghana) at the forecourt. The fair provides opportunity for students and corporate Ghana to exhibit their products and services to attract prospective buyers. The “Migizigi Fiesta” is scheduled for Wednesday evening, where students will showcase their talents in creative arts such as poetry recitals, spoken word, music, rap battles, dance, painting, cooking, fashion parade, décor, literary work, sculpture, photography, modeling, theatre and so on at the Forecourt.

The second edition of the ‘Public Presentation of Students’ Research and Creative Activities is scheduled for Thursday, April 26, 2018 at AUCC forecourt. Instead of students' presenting their research project works to only faculty, they will embark on a public presentation where representatives from corporate Ghana, staff and students will have the opportunity to visit over 80 groups in their stands, interact and ask questions about their projects and its implementation. The idea is to facilitate the adoption of these research findings by industry players in order to bridge the gap between industry and academia.

Friday April 27, 2018, African Cultural Night will feature cultural dance performances from over five African countries. There will also be display of African cuisines and fashion show. Fashion designers from AUCC and other tertiary institutions are expected to grace the occasion.

There will be Aerobics Session and Kenkey Party at the forecourt on Saturday April 28, 2018 and a Thanksgiving Service at the Evangel Assemblies of God Church, Adabraka on Sunday April 29, 2018.
