FDB seize expired goods in Takoradi

Takoradi, March 22, GNA- The Takoradi Zonal Office of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Tuesday seized a quantity of expired and unregistered goods worth 40 million cedis from some super markets in Takoradi.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about the exercise, Mr George Pentsil, the Zonal Officer said it was part of the FDB's statutory duties.

He said expired food and drugs were unwholesome and not fit for human consumption and was therefore an offence for anybody to market them. Mr Pentsil said all goods, whether imported or manufactured locally should have a label indicating the date of manufacture, expiring date and batch number.

He said importers of food and drug products should obtain permit from the Board to ensure compliance of these requirements. Mr Pentsil advised consumers to look out for the expire dates on goods they buy. 22 March 05
