The Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has disclosed that 10 recruits have been dismissed from Ghana’s security services training schools for breaching a directive banning the use of mobile phones during training.

According to the minister, the recruits were caught using mobile phones at their respective training schools despite the ban.

He explained that the dismissals were intended to serve as a deterrent to other recruits and instil discipline among trainees.

The minister emphasised that recruits are expected to comply with the rules and regulations governing the various security services training schools.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak made the disclosure during an interaction with students of Satafiya Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi, according to a myjoyonline.com report on August 31, 2026.

He also revealed that more than half a million people applied during the latest security services recruitment exercise, but only about 10,000 were selected for training, underscoring the highly competitive nature of the process.

“It was so vigorous that over half a million people applied. We ended up taking only 10,000. Indiscipline: people got there, and they were hiding their phones in their pillows. First, the moment you get to training school, they take all your phones,” he said.
