Veep calls on Saudi authorities to increase trade with Africa

Vice-President Aliu Mahama on Wednesday called on the government of oil rich Saudi Arabia to increase trade and other economic investments in Africa.

He said at a State House meeting with the Saudi Charge 'D' Affair, Mr Ahmad Kattouah that the "Golden Age of Business" declared by President Kufuor's Administration has created a conducive atmosphere for improved trade relations between the two countries.

Alhaji Mahama said a Ghana trade delegation that visited the Arab country did not receive an encouraging response but expressed the hope that the appointment of a new ambassador to Accra would enhance their relations.

He called for the continuation of Saudi funded health centres started in 1991 and an increase in the number of scholarships offered to Ghanaian students.

Mr Kattouah assured the Vice-President that a Saudi trade delegation is expected in the country soon as part of measures to boost bilateral relations. He said business opportunities are much better now in Ghana for Saudi entrepreneurs to explore.
