Cape Coast Municipality records 49 births during Easter

Cape Coast, April 16, GNA - Forty-nine births, made up of 28 girls and 21 boys were recorded in four health institutions within Cape Coast Municipality, during the Easter celebrations.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Cape Coast on Sunday, Ms Anna Borkey, Senior Midwife Superintendent of the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, popularly known as "Interbeton hospital" said 14 deliveries, made up of 10 girls and five boys were recorded at the hospital on Good Friday, April 14.

She explained that nine were normal deliveries that included a set of twins, made up of a boy and a girls whilst remaining five were through Caesarean section.

Ms Borkey said those delivered through Caesarean section and their mothers were doing well at the hospital whilst those who had normal deliveries had been discharged.

She said on Holy Saturday, April 15, five births were recorded at the hospital, four normal deliveries and a Caesarean section, made up of two boys and three girls.

"All the mothers and babies doing well," She added.

Ms Borkey said on Easter Sunday, three normal deliveries made up of two boys and a girl were recorded at the hospital "all the women and their babies are in good health."

At the University of Cape Coast Hospital, Ms Florence Asmah, a Staff Midwife, said on Good Friday, two normal deliveries, made up of a girl and a boy were recorded at the hospital and the mothers and their babies had been discharged.

She said on Holy Saturday, no birth was recorded at the hospital but on Easter Sunday by mid-day a normal delivery of a girl was recorded, the mother and child were in good health.

Madam Florence Quainoo, a Nursing Officer at the Cape Coast Municipal hospital, said between Good Friday April 14 to mid-day of Easter Sunday April 16, the hospital recorded 11 normal deliveries and two births through Caesarean section made up of six girls and seven boys.

At Ewim Urban Health Centre, Madam Florence Mends, Staff Midwife told the GNA that 10 normal deliveries, made up of six girls and four boys were recorded during Easter.
