Minister of Energy and Green Transition John Jinapor has refuted claims that he assured residents of Kumasi that their power challenges had been fully resolved.

He contended that his remarks during the commissioning of transformers in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, had been misconstrued.

Speaking during a phone-in on Newsfile on May 2, 2026, the minister said he never indicated that Kumasi’s electricity issues had been completely fixed.

“I don’t remember telling the people of Kumasi that their problem has been fully solved. What I did was to commission a new bulk supply point and outline a series of interventions we are rolling out,” he said.

According to him, the government has initiated multiple projects to stabilise power supply in Kumasi, including replacing overloaded transformers and constructing new transmission lines.

“This week, we are changing the transformer at the primary supply point at Ridge. We are also starting a project to connect new lines to improve distribution,” he explained.

Jinapor maintained that these interventions form part of a broader plan to address challenges in the city’s electricity network.

“When we complete these programmes and finalise the transformer replacement exercise, we expect to see a relatively stable power supply,” he said.

He added that the project timelines had already been made public. While acknowledging that Kumasi’s power challenges are partly due to inherited infrastructure constraints, particularly overloaded transformers, Jinapor assured residents that the government remains committed to resolving them.

“We are working continuously to ensure that the problems we inherited, especially in Kumasi, are dealt with,” he stated.
