The Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has cautioned security agency heads that he will not be held accountable for financial transactions or official correspondence that do not pass through his office.

The warning comes as the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) faces scrutiny over a GH¢3 million resubmitted settled commitment.

Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, he said many agencies often communicate directly with the Ministry of Finance, bypassing sector ministers, which can result in confusion and duplication.

“You'll be sitting there, then all of a sudden something comes up, and you are not aware, or they have sent something, and now they forward it to you again, then you now send it again, then before you realise, the repetition is happening,” he explained.

He said he has instructed his chief director to ensure that all agency expenditures and correspondence are first routed through his office.

“I vehemently told the chief director that, if you don't let them pass their expenditures and letters through me, don't ever call me to come and answer for them; I won't answer for anything that did not pass through me,” he added.

Mohammed-Mubarak said the directive aims to prevent duplication and enhance accountability.

Citing the Ghana Immigration Service, he noted that multiple deputies could submit separate letters, complicating processes, and stressed that all communication should go through his office.
