The Deputy Minister of Defence, Brogya Genfi, has given details of the tragic helicopter crash in Tema Community One, which claimed the lives of the two people on board the aircraft.
In an interview with 1957 News, Brogya Genfi, while confirming the deaths of the two persons on board the helicopter, stated that it did not belong to the Ghana Armed Forces or any security agency.
He disclosed that the helicopter belonged to a group that often used one of the runways of the state.
“I got the information of a helicopter crash somewhere around Tema Community One. So I checked with the Ghana Air Force and, yes, it was confirmed that there's a helicopter crash. But it doesn't belong to the Ghana Air Force fleet. It doesn't belong to the ministry or the Ghana Armed Forces.
“It's rather, I think, an association that uses our airstrip in Afienya. So it's a microlight helicopter that takes only, I believe, two persons. And so we got the information that it was fatal. Both persons did not survive, but it is not one of our fleets, I can give you that confirmation,” he said.
The deputy minister indicated that personnel of the army are on the ground to help identify the victims. He added that authorities were also looking for the owner of the helicopter to assist with investigations into the crash.
“We have detailed some of our officers to go and look at it… we have to know the identities of the persons involved, and also we are making efforts to reach the owner of that aircraft to see who and who were on board.”
