Immigration Service wins National Table Tennis Clubs League

Accra, Sept 8, GNA - Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) emerged the winner in the male category of the Akosombo Textile Limited (ATL) National Table Tennis League competition after 13 weeks of action at the D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra. Ghana Police Service placed second with Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) picking up third position. In the female division, Top Spinners club from Agona Swedru picked the ultimate prize with the GIS picking the second position whilst CEPS again emerged third.

GIS and Top Spinners are billed to represent Ghana at the 2009 African Clubs Championship to be held in Morocco in June next year. Both GIS and Top Spinners received giant prizes for winning the ultimate with 12 yards of ATL fabrics presented for each member of the teams.

The second and third placed teams in each category were also presented with six yards of ATL fabrics for each member of the teams. Mr. Sam Hemans-Arday, Adverts and Promotions Officer of Akosombo Textiles Limited, the major sponsor of the League promised that his company will sponsor the 2009 League with more attractive packages. Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC) in a speech read on his behalf, praised ATL for their longstanding sponsorship of activities of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA).

He also congratulated the players and their officials for comporting themselves and advised them to be respectful, obedient and patriotic at all times.

Squadron Leader (Rtd) Ebo Bartels, Chairman of GTTA also congratulated the participants for their excellent display of sportsmanship as well as the technical committee of the association for a successful League season.
