Ghana Reaches Davis Cup Final

Favourites Ghana Saturday overwhelmed Madagascar winning all three sets to reach the final of Group III Euro-Africa Zone Davis Cup.
The Ghanaians, who took the tournament by storm got off the semi-final duel with Madagascar on a cracking note when their number two player Henry Adjei-Darko made short work of Aistis Donne Dubert Radison, winning the three sets on identical 4-1 scores.
In the second singles Ghanaian Gunther Darky made mincemeat of Germain Rasolondrazana scooping all three sets 4-2, 4-2 and 4-1.
In the doubles Samuel Fumi and Frank Ofori defeated Julien Mouchon and Radison 4-2, 4-2 and 4-1.
The win means Ghana, and Latvia whom they play in the final on Sunday, automatically gain promotion to Group II, while Kenya and Georgia are relegated to Group IV - the lowest in the Davis Cup.
In other knockout matches in the eight-team tournament, Latvia beat Lithuania 2 sets to 1 in a battle of former Soviet Republics to reach the finals.
Hosts Botswana staged a major face-saver when they overcame Georgia 2 sets to 1 and making good their escape from relegation to Group IV.
Kenya failed to hang on to Group III, as Iceland eased them out in a 2-1 setback.
While Ghana and Latvia climb up to Group II, Madagascar, Lithuania, Botswana and Iceland stay put in Group III even as Kenya and Georgia bow out.
The other matches in Davis Cup Euro-Africa Zone Group III kick off Monday in Mauritius where Bulgaria, Namibia, Togo and Macedonia play in pool A, while Egypt, Mauritius, Nigeria and Bosnia/Herzegovina battle it out in pool B.
