Ghana’s Tennis Dreams In Panic State

Ghana’s preparation for the Euro Africa Zone Two Davis Cup Tennis competition against Armenia has been dealt a severe blow ahead of the match, which will be played at the weekend. Two of the nations three top seeds, Henry Adjei Darko and Frank Ofori have not reported to camp. JOY FM can confirm that Frank Ofori has not flown in from his Ireland base because he has not received his air ticket yet. Henry Adjei Darko on the other hand is in the country but officials of the Tennis Association say he has not made a commitment to play the competition.

Media reports suggesting that Henry Adjei Darko has been struck down with Malaria have been debunked by sources close to the family who say that the 18-year old is just not enthused about playing in the competition. The Ghana Tennis Association (GTA) has until the close of Wednesday to settle on three players who will feature for the country against Armenia. The GTA will have to produce two names to play alongside Ghana’s number one seed, Gunther Darkey.

The match against Armenia is very crucial to the aspirations of Ghana staying in the Euro Africa Zone Two Division of the Davis Cup. If the Golden Rackets lose, they will slip into Euro Africa Zone Three division of the Davis Cup. If the Golden Rackets lose, they will slip into Euro African Zone Three of the Davis Cup and will plunge below their current 84th ranking in World Tennis.
