Guinness Fulfils Promise To Stars

Guinness Ghana Limited, official sponsor of the Black Stars, fulfilled its promise to the senior national team, when few hours after last Sunday?s match, it presented a cheque for ?100 million to the players and officials for emerging victorious in thier African World Cup qualifying match against Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

The Black Stars thrashed Bafana Bafana 3-0 at the Kumasi Stadium.Making the presentation at Crystal Rose Hotel, where the Stars lodged, Mr Laurence Turnbull, Finance Director of Guinness Ghana, said the team?s fantastic result was achieved through a combination of powerful resource such as true quality in delivery, massive inner strength and real belief.

These same powerful attributes, he said, were core to Guinness itself.?With this fantastic result, you are sending a powerful message to the footballing world and Guinness Ghana is proud to be supporting you on the continuing journey to the 2006 World Cup?, Mr Turbull added.

Receiving the cheque, skipper Stephen Appiah thanked Guinness for its wonderful support and expressed delight that he and his colleagues had made both their sponsors and the whole nation proud.

He revealed that their outstanding performance was achieved through the morale-boosting prematch incentives they received form Guinness and the Government. Present at the brief ceremony included Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Rashid Bawa, Minister of State, Mr Jumah, Chairman of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and members of the GFA Management Board.
