Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has pleaded with supporters to fill the Tamale Sports Stadium when they lock horns with Uganda in Group E opener of the Fifa World Cup final qualifying round on October 7.

Locals are yet to forgive the Black Stars' poor showing and match bonus rows at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They keep snubbing games in Accra and Kumasi, prompting the Ghana FA’s choice to host Uganda in Tamale.

“I will plead with Ghanaians to put behind what happened in the past and fill the stadium when the Black Stars host Uganda next month. The last game [against Rwanda] I witnessed that the attendance was very poor,” Gyan told Angel FM.

“It isn't like a couple of years ago where we met many people at the stadium during national team assignments. They used to shout for you to know everything was going on well but now people act as if they don't care.

“The attendance in recent games is appalling and we want them because we need them," he added.

Uganda coach Milutin Sredojevic named his squad for the game this week and reports suggest the Cranes will camp in Burkina Faso ahead of the game.

Ghana will travel to Egypt in November to face the Pharaohs before welcoming Congo next year.
