Elneny eyeing World Cup qualification over Ghana

Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny believes his side will pick the sole ticket from Group E to the 2018 Fifa World Cup following Friday's African Zone qualifiers draw.

The Pharaohs were pitted against three-time participants Ghana, together with Congo and Uganda.

Egypt suffered a 7-3 aggregate humiliation at the hands of the Black Stars in the final round qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"We didn't have any favorable opponents," Elneny told Cafonline.

"The team that wants to qualify has to face all the others without any preferences.

"Egypt has a new generation of players that have the character and will to play against any team.

"We want to make Egyptians happy. The last time we played in the Fifa World Cup, I wasn’t even born, so it's about time to experience the World Cup once again.

"I'm positive we can qualify regardless of our opponents."

Egypt's last appearance at the World Cup was in 1990, 56 years after their maiden campaign in 1934.

Both tournaments were held in Italy.
